Today I’m packing up and saying ‘Goodbye’ to Shanghai. A couple of things I won’t miss:
• Internet censorship! God, it sucks!! It’s not just that you can’t access certain sites, it’s that all sites seem to be hit or miss. I’ve been trying to post this on ‘Blogger.com’ for days and I just can’t do it. Not because it’s a restricted site, but because it randomly just goes away. Facebook, on the other hand, IS restricted, so that’s why you haven’t seen me on that since I’ve left. Crazy, eh?
o Couple of interesting points with censorship, btw… on Wikipedia, the Republic of China (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic_of_china) can be accessed in China without a problem, but the People’s Republic of China (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/People%27s_republic_of_china), is banned. You’ll access the page for the briefest of moment, and then it comes up “page cannot be displayed”.
o All social networking sites are banned… Facebook, Blogger.com, etc. An irony, I think, for a socialist government… but that’s just me =).
• Noodles for EVERY meal! I mean, CHRIST! I like fried noodles and all, but for breakfast? C’mon, people!
• Cold… Ok, so I’m going to India… by tomorrow I’ll be bitching about the heat, so I know I know… hush already, right? I’m not really a whiner! I swear! Hush, you…
